Discover the legend of The Albert Hartley this Halloween

This Halloween, uncover a ghostly tale unfolding across the waters of the dock, as the spirit of a long-lost ship returns for one night.

Visitors to Royal Albert Dock are invited to gather on 31 October from 5pm to 9pm to witness a short projection on the back of the Maritime Museum, best viewed from the inner quay.

The spook-tacular animation will bring to life the legend of the magnificent vessel, The Albert Hartley, which was said to have been lost to stormy seas many years ago….

For over 175 years, Royal Albert Dock has stood as a guardian of the Mersey, its calm waters preserving nature’s treasures. This Halloween, a chilling tale of the sea will rise from the barnacle-filled seabed, as a ghostly legend returns.

The story begins with The Albert Hartley, an impressive vessel known for its towering crow’s nest, where the notorious Captain Salthouse would watch over the waves. Accompanied by his one-eyed pet seagull, RubenCaptain Salthouse and his ship were the envy of the seas, from Port noir to Harbour accessories

However, one Hallow’s Eve, their luck ran out….

During storm Rudy, a furious gust o pushed The Albert Hartley and its crew towards the dock. Although a long shot, the crew ignited their One O’Clock Gun to signal for help, but it was no use, and the ship was lost in the stormy seas.

While the wreckage was never found, it’s believed that lost soles still roam the dock, with alleged sightings of three ghostly crewmates called Miller, Rosa and Francie.

Legend has it that every Halloween, the captain and his sailors return to the dock where they are forever bound, still searching for their beloved home. As the story unfolds, visitors might also spot a few ghostly figures wandering along the dock.

This ghostly experience also marks the launch of Dock Shorts, a new projection series transforming the dock through dynamic, light-based storytelling, with more information to be announced.
