This is while its dockside gallery undergoes an exciting transformation. Until reopening, you’ll find the Tate just a few minutes walk away in the landmark RIBA North building at Mann Island.
This is a scaled-down carefully curated Tate, but plenty of the things that make it one of Liverpool’s best-loved cultural attractions are still there. The gallery is currently set over two floors at RIBA North with a lift and stairs to take visitors between the two.
Tate’s temporary site has two small galleries where you can enjoy free entry, as well as a programme of workshops and events. There’s no need to book in advance before you go along and it’s open from 10am to 5:50pm all week long.
Tate Liverpool is focused on welcoming art lovers of all ages so there is plenty for families to get stuck in to. The first floor of the RIBA North location houses a Learning Space full of art materials, books and games, where budding artists can let loose, and a display board for mini masterpieces.
Plus, Tate offers regular free activity sessions for the whole family and every day during the school holidays children can go along to create, draw, and play games with the purr-fect arty partner, Mildred the Gallery Cat!
Two of Tate’s favourite features have made the move and are now sharing the ground floor space. The popular family-friendly café is open for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea including delicious bakes, fresh soup and toasties, and hot drinks before a gallery wander.
The gift shop is a great place to find art-related books, homeware, posters and prints, including the Colours of Liverpool collaboration with Liverpool design studio Dorothy and a collection of David Shrigley’s bold humorous designs.
The café and shop are both cashless so payment is either by card or contactless.
Tate is being reimagined for the future, and the ambitious plan will reveal more of the beautiful original features of its Royal Albert Dock former warehouse space.
