You’ll find four galleries at the museum: Life in West Africa, Enslavement and the Middle Passage, Legacy and the Campaign Zone, representing Black history and heritage.
Each examines and tells the story of the history of the slave trade, the reasons for it and Liverpool’s role, alongside issues of contemporary slavery.
Since opening in 2007, on the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the British Slave Trade, it has become an international hub for resources on human rights issues.
It hosts talks and lectures, and annual events in recognition of Slavery Remembrance Day.
