Sonic Yootha at Sea

Sonic Yootha at Sea

One of the country’s biggest brashest disco club nights is celebrating Eurovision by getting on the decks – and on deck – on a 72ft Challenger yacht moored at the dock.

Liverpool-based DJs Sonic Yootha, who supported Kylie Minogue on her 2018 Golden tour, will be bringing their mirrorball magic to the inner quay for a special onboard dance floor session in the build-up to the Grand Final on Saturday May 13.

They’ll be taking over the yacht, which is operated by Tall Ships Youth Trust, from 2pm to 5pm for an afternoon set filled with back-to-back Eurovision hits, disco classics and indie anthems.

As an inclusive night and a safe space for all, Sonic Yootha has grown over the past few years into one of the leading club events in the UK, styling itself as a ‘monthly dislocated disco for homos, fauxmos, gender-blenders & part-time Brendas’.

Co-founder Shaun Duggan says this gig is definitely going to be one to remember not only for disco lovers but for the DJs.

“We can’t wait to be all at sea for Eurovision on Finals Day at Royal Albert Dock,” he said. “It’s the first time Ian, John and I will have played from the deck of a boat so it’s certainly going to be lots of fun. It’s great to be involved in the dock celebrations and hope visitors enjoy our set.”

In addition to Sonic Yootha’s DJ set, the dock is keeping the party going with Time To Shine podiums where visitors can unleash their own inner pop superstar with lip synch or air guitar to their favourite tunes on specially built mini-stages.

The podiums will be hosted by presenter Leanne Campbell, and there’ll be prize giveaways for the best performances!
