Slavery Remembrance Day and summer events at National Museums Liverpool

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Slavery Remembrance Day (SRD) commemorations in Liverpool. This event sees the city and its communities recognise the history and ongoing legacy of the transatlantic slave trade through a vibrant programme of performances, workshops, and talks.

As well as marking the day itself (Friday 23 August) with a Walk of Remembrance, National Museums Liverpool will host a number of events in August to reflect, remember and encourage learning from the injustices of the past, including a Health, Medicine and Transatlantic Slavery Workshop on 20th August inviting members of the public to shape future displays at the International Slavery Museum.

Other summer events include ‘Return of the detector dogs’ at Maritime Museum on the 1st, 8th, 15th & 22nd, with a unique chance to see these highly skilled dogs in action, along with Dockwatch on 30th August, which will invite visitors to explore the amazing biodiversity of the waterfront in an interactive day, with viewing tanks of creatures found in the Royal Albert Dock.

Head to National Museums Liverpool to find out more about their summer events calendar.
