Royal Albert Dock welcomes immersive maritime mission for the British Science Festival

Royal Albert Dock is set to host a free and immersive maritime adventure this September, inviting visitors to step back in time and experience life at sea like never before in collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University and the British Science Festival.

On Wednesday 10th, Friday 12th and Sunday 14th September, visitors can travel back in time to 1846 as a ship prepares to leave the dock for a journey around the world. But when disaster strikes and the vessel becomes stranded, it’s up to you to discover what’s gone wrong and chart a course home.

This interactive experience combines ship simulators and VR headsets to immerse you in Liverpool’s maritime story, while exploring themes of climate change, marine bioscience, architecture and engineering.

But that’s not all — visitors can also come face-to-face with a robot dog, offering a glimpse into the future as these machines are now used to search for materials on ships.

Plus, learn about the marine life in our waters, including jellyfish, mussels, anemones, and sea squirts, with expert insights from the Canal and River Trust team.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, science lover or family seeking adventure, this is your chance to climb aboard and discover how the past connects with the challenges of today.

Opening times:

Wednesday 10th & Friday 12th: 11am-3pm

Sunday 14th: 11:30am-5pm

Location:

Boardwalk outside Tate Liverpool
