This half-term, enjoy a packed programme of free events as we celebrate Chinese New Year, in collaboration with Culture Liverpool, and welcome the return of Fiesta of Fire for its third year, all on Liverpool’s iconic waterfront.

Chinese New Year Dragon Installation

14th February – 4th March

Located on either side of Salthouse Bridge

Created especially for this year’s festivities, from 14th February, visitors will be greeted by two striking, large-scale dragon installations located on either side of Salthouse Bridge. Commissioned from specialist workshops in China, these artistic dragons create a colorful photo point to mark the Year of the Horse.

Inner Quay

Starting in the city centre, watch as Liverpool Hung Gar Kung Fu Friendship Association, Pagoda Arts and award-winning dance company Movema lead a vibrant procession through Liverpool, ending at the dock, complete with a street theatre piece and colourful Beijing opera-style costumes and stilt walkers.

The celebrations continue on Wednesday, as Hung Gar Kung Fu returns to the dock for a special extra performance.

Inner Quay

Experience a breathtaking 15-minute fire show projected onto the façade of the Maritime Museum, with freestyle performances from Bring the Fire Project around the inner quay, set to an electrifying soundtrack by local drumming group Wirral Drummers.

Arts and crafts workshops

16th – 20th February

Spark creativity with free, drop-in arts and craft workshops*: 
  • Fab4 Cafe 16th, 18th, 20th (10am–2:30pm): Create and decorate a mobile horse puppet with Unusual Art.
  • Revolution 16th, 18th, 20th (12pm–5pm): Make ‘photogram’ cyanotype sunprints, bookmarks or bunting, or build pinhole viewers with Little Vintage Photography.
  • PANAM 17th & 19th (12pm–5pm): Craft a Chinese horse head while learning about the horse’s symbolism of strength and freedom with Dora Colquhoun.

*Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Year of the Horse Dock Shorts

16th to 22nd February, 5pm to 10pm

Best viewed from the inner quay

Celebrate the Year of the Horse with a special Dock Shorts animation, projected onto the façade of the Maritime Museum and best enjoyed from the inner quay.
