An immersive and colourful installation inspired by South America

Tate Liverpool presents a new commission by Berlin-based artist Sol Calero (born in Caracas, Venezuela, 1982). Calero’s work takes the form of brightly coloured, large-scale immersive installations.

Her playful work transforms the gallery into spaces of social interaction and exchange. This often includes the use of stereotypical imagery such as exotic fruit and sensuous salsa dresses to investigate how Latin American cultures are conceived. However, Calero pushes past cultural clichés and combines her work with a variety of everyday objects and media to activate real-life scenarios, transforming the gallery into airport currency-exchange rooms, saunas and Caribbean huts, which become spaces of interpretation, conversation and performance.

This is Sol Calero's first UK exhibition.
