Our Festive Story - Love Returns

It's 1933 in the City of Liverpool and amongst the wintery sky and columns of smoke the story begins at Liverpool’s Waterfront looking down at the Three Graces. A woman in a red coat walks along a cold and lonely path looking out to sea thinking of her one true love. In the distance lies a merchant ship amongst the choppy sea and the howling winds, crashing through the waves. Inside, through the porthole, is a man shovelling coal. His face is covered in soot and glistening in the sweaty, orange glow. With sadness in his eyes our man gazes down at his locket looking into the face of his beloved. Our woman in red.

Taking us back to their home, our woman looks at a photograph of the merchant sailor, longing for his safe return wondering if he’ll be back in time for Christmas. As the frost covers her window, it bursts out onto a snowy Sefton Park showing a happy memory of the beloved couple. As pages of a calendar descend into the wintery night sky, Christmas draws closer and closer.

Back on the ship it's tea time in the workers quarters. There’s laughter and singing amongst everyone, all except for one. While the men clash their tankards dancing and singing, our man takes a sneaky glance at his beloved once again, looking saddened and missing her dearly. As the snow stops and the sun begins to shine, columns of smoke begin to rise into the cloudy sky. Our woman stands impatiently waiting for the bus in her best coat and hat, whilst our man peers over the railing looking out at the dreamy night sky of Liverpool’s beautiful waterfront. He is almost home.

Waiting, our woman can see the ship coming closer and closer towards the dock's edge. The excitement becomes real and finally when the gangway lowers between them, they run towards each other in joyous Christmas embrace as he spins her round. All that time spent apart is forgotten, as they're reunited once more for the celebrations and joy of what Christmas Day brings. Our man and woman are together at last.
