Join us for Global Scouse Day

Location:Royal Albert Dock Liverpool

Date:28 February

Hearty food for the soul...

Global Scouse Day – on February 28 – is an annual celebration of the city of Liverpool, based around scouse; our meat (or veggie) stew that’s become synonymous with the city.

The Dock community will be part of the big day, getting together to celebrate all things Scouse and honour our heritage – which we think is as important as a world heritage site! Restaurants and bars across the Dock will be serving up their unique variations on the dish – because, let’s face it, every home has its own recipe.

Lunyalita will be serving up a Catalan Scouse, while new arrival Madre – already a Mexican favourite – will serve a scouse taco with beef brisket, carrot salsa and pickled beetroot (it will also donate 50p from every taco sold to the Liberty Centre). Pie Port will feature a classic Scouse pie, while the team at Smugglers is firmly behind the day: "For us, being located in such a historical site like The Albert Dock and having guests visit us from all over the world, we feel that having Scouse on the menu which is known for being such a hearty dish allows us to show the warm and welcoming nature of Scousers through the cities best recognised food,” they say.

The Nest will have a craft table outside, where visitors can colour in their own Scouse recipe, illustrated by owner Katherine, to take home. These will all be entered into a competition with a chance to win a £35 voucher to spend at the Nest! The winner will be chosen at random.

It’ll also be launching scouse-themed preserves from social enterprise Alchemic Kitchen, made entirely from surplus foods that would otherwise be wasted. Think Strawberry Fields Jam and Scouse Ketchup, all made from local fruit and veg, plus some tasty accompaniments for scouse.

“It’s the most natural thing for me to shout about how great Liverpool is,” says Nest owner Katherine. I always say I couldn’t live anywhere else – there is just a special mentality amongst scousers; an unapologetic voice for justice and what is right. Since opening The Nest my passion for local talent has only grown and it is such a pleasure to show off our incredible creatives every day in pieces we stock at The Nest. To be able to tell the stories of our artists and designers to visitors is so vital to our business, as is seeing what it means to them to take away an authentic piece of Liverpool. I feel like we get to connect some important dots and it all benefits the reputation and growth of our incredible city.”

Don’t miss out!
