The Dock’s new faces for summer

31st May, 2018

Summer marks the start of an exciting season at the Dock. Not only is it our festival spell, but we’re braced for a raft of new arrivals over the next couple of months.

Rosa’s Thai Cafe has already blossomed across London, with 11 restaurants across Spitalfields, Soho, Carnaby, Chelsea and Brixton. Its arrival at Albert Dock this summer is the first time it’s ventured outside the city, bringing a touch of theatre to dining on the Dock with an open kitchen bursting with the fresh, zesty flavours of south-east Asia, and tables spread over two floors.

Joining it in Britannia Pavilion is Lunyalita (Little Lunya). Already established as a Liverpool favourite, Lunya opened its first restaurant in Liverpool One in 2010, before spreading its wings to Manchester. A tranche of both critical and customer acclaim has seen it win a series of awards since then, and the new cafe bar brings a Mediterranean mix of coffee, wine, tapas and a deli, coupled with breathtaking unique views across the waterfront. Lunyalita will also feed into the Dock’s shopping selection, bringing some tasty picks from its Spanish deli – the largest online selection in the UK – with over 1,300 different products.

Rough Hand Made Bakery completes a hat-trick of foodie favourites coming soon. This south Liverpool stalwart has built its name and reputation over the last couple of years, making a mouthwatering assortment of breads, pastries, pittas, croissants and quiches. Throwing some South American sunshine into all of its bakes, Rough Hand Made specialises in unique, hand-shaped delights – hence the name – and is most often found with a queue of customers round the block.

Moving away from the kitchen, the Dock’s busy reinforcing its reputation as the place to try something new. Escape Hunt will be moving in and locking the doors this summer, creating a series of clues to help you and a group of friends crack the codes and make good your escape as the clock counts down.

Compared to TV’s Crystal Maze, the adrenaline-pumping adventure includes a variety of interactive escape rooms to get your pulse racing.

If adrenaline’s your thing, you can also spend your summer splashing in the Dock. Adventure Dock – a giant inflatable water-based obstacle course on Duke’s Dock, alongside Albert Dock – is open and enticing thrill-seekers as the temperatures rise. Slide, trampoline, grab a raft or straddle a barrier as you bounce around this adventure course, with an iconic background setting. It’s guaranteed to be one of the summer’s coolest choices.

But if you fancy something a bit less hectic, the Leather Satchel Co. has opened a new course and craft space called Hanshaws' Leather Workshop, where you can watch master craftsmen at work, and try your hand at making your own purse, card or passport holder, keyring or clutch bag. Creative and mindful, learn a new skill while you make your own, unique creation.
