Lucian Freud: Real Lives exhibition at Tate Liverpool

20th July, 2021

Tate Liverpool is staging a major exhibition of paintings and prints by British artist Lucian Freud, opening at the Royal Albert Dock gallery on July 24th. Lucian Freud: Real Lives, featuring some of the artist’s most iconic, is the first significant display of Freud’s work in the North West for more than 30 years.

It will span Freud’s entire career, from his early days under the influence of expressionism, to his later work that was unapologetically raw and rooted in realism.

A master of modern portraiture, Freud was celebrated for his unique ability to capture his sitters, who were often the closest people in his life including friends, family, fellow painters, lovers and children.

Visitors to Lucian Freud: Real Lives, which runs until January 16 2022, will see paintings, etchings and photographs featuring his most recognised sitters including his first wife Kitty Garman, his friend and studio assistant David Dawson and performance artist Leigh Bowery.
