HRH Prince Charles Returns to the Dock

13TH February, 2019

Albert Dock welcomed HRH Prince of Wales yesterday to celebrate the Dock’s new status as Royal Albert Dock Liverpool, in advance of its 175th anniversary in 2021. The Prince unveiled a plaque commemorating his visit, and crowds lined routes around the Dock to greet him as he arrived to the tunes of the Beatles.

His Royal Highness was gifted a leather note book – alongside a mini handbag for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, in matching blue and grey – at the Leather Satchel Company, where he met owners Keith and Gail Hanshaw. His son Prince William, Duke of Cambridge met the Leather Satchel team at last summer’s International Business Festival, where he was gifted satchels for his children.

After unveiling the plaque, the Prince continued his walk around the Dock, talking to members of the large crowd that had gathered, and visiting Ugo Rondinone’s new Liverpool Mountain sculp-ture, alongside meeting staff from the Beatles Story.

At the International Slavery Museum, he was shown a variety of objects used in school sessions, including a card game the museum is developing with its young ambassadors about British and American activists. He also found out more about the museum’s current exhibition, Journey to Justice, and its modern slavery work.

At art shop The Nest, owner Katherine Caldwell presented HRH with an original watercolour painting of one of her woodland animal illustrations. The Prince is known for his love of red squirrels. While there he also met with Lunyalita owners Peter and Elaine Kinsella, and Peaberry Coffee House and Kitchen owners Graeme and Clare Farrington.
