The Brunch Club

Bigger than breakfast and not as late as lunch, we celebrate the nation’s favourite meal, brunch.

With so many things to see and do in Liverpool right now, we thought we’d get you set up for a summer of activities by sorting out your most important meal of the day... brunch.

Whether you’re planning on heading to the Tate to see the new Keith Haring exhibition, testing your wits at Escape Hunt or going for a day of shopping, these bountiful brunches will keep you going all day.

A waffle wrap? Oh yes...

Puffle Waffle’s been an absolute favourite since it opened up at the Dock, bringing the flavours of Hong Kong hawkers to Liverpool. While there’s a huge variety of both savoury and sweet options, including strawberries, bananas and Nutella, it’s the all day breakfast wrap we plumped for. A melt-in-your-mouth puffle waffle wrap crammed with crispy bacon, egg, fried onions, melted cheese and ketchup, this will put a spring in your stride.

‘Social Saturdays’ at Panam

If you’ve got a bit more time on your hands, Panam’s Bottomless Brunch could just be the best possible way to start your weekend. Pick a two-hour slot between 11am and 2.45pm on Saturdays, and for just £35 each you get to sample from this staggering smorgasbord. A first course ‘sharing platter’ includes buttermilk pancakes, sweet Belgian waffles, whipped vanilla cream, fresh berries, blueberry jam and maple syrup. Next up, you get to choose your ‘main’, from a menu that includes rump steak with hand-cut chips, beans and tomato; a Sao Paolo chicken burger with piri piri chicken breast, salad, garlic mayo and fries; fish and chips with minted peas; slow-roasted Texas barbecue ribs with French fries and a wild mushroom penne pasta with rocket and truffle oil. All accompanied by free-flowing prosecco, Bloody Marys or Mimosas. You may need to make sure you don’t have too many plans after…

A smooth start to the day?

If there’s more on your agenda, we recommend heading to Peaberry Coffee House and Kitchen for a power-packed plant-based brekkie. Its new Green Goddess smoothie bowl is super-healthy and packed full of fresh fruit and anti-oxidants – it’s gluten free and you can opt for a vegan version. Combining frozen pineapple, mango and avocado alongside fresh spinach, yogurt (soya yogurt or coconut yogurt if you’d like a dairy free option), agave and apple juice it’ll leave you bursting with energy. Brought to life with a super-colourful garnish, including edible flowers, blueberries, strawberries, sliced banana, nuts and seed mix, it packs a healthy punch.

Flaky pastries you may just find irresistible

People come from far and wide to visit Rough Hand Made, and we know why... The family-run bakery and coffee shop is crammed with pastries, cakes, breads and treats – from its irresistible dulce de leche croissant to the superbly savoury pizza pies. Everything you choose at Rough Hand Made is always completely unique – each is hand-made, bringing its own individuality; and each day’s choices are different. So the best recommendation we have is to pop in frequently, pull up a stool and watch the world go by as you work your way through the menu.

Viva España

And how could we compile a list of the Dock’s best brunches without heading to Lunyalita to sample the menu? Alongside its full listing of egg dishes, the Catalan classic Catalan migas caught our eye… A traditional country Spanish breakfast, it includes chorizo, morcilla (a Spanish blood sausage) and pancetta, sautéed with breadcrumbs, onion and garlic and topped with a poached free-range egg. Or, if you’re really feeling hungry, it’s hard to beat the top-notch ingredients in the Full Lunyalita – grilled chorizo, morcilla, Maynard’s Farm treacle-cured bacon and a fried free-range egg, with grilled tomato.
