Dad-friendly ideas for Father’s Day

Whether your dad’s the hardest person on your ‘to buy for’ list, or you know that food – and drink – is the key to his heart, we’ve got a few suggestions...

It’s been a busy summer already for things to do in Liverpool, and we’re barely in June. No doubt next up on your social calendar is June 16, with thoughts turning to the finer details of how to celebrate Father’s Day. Whether your dad’s easy to buy for, or Father’s Day always leaves you looking around for ideas, we’ve got a few suggestions for the day dedicated to dads...

Say it with a card...

Pop in to the Nest and pick up a card from its stunning selection of cards and gifts from local artists and makers. This handmade Father’s Day card features a cute crocheted heart from one of the Nest’s newest suppliers – Jules Cooke from Mollycat Studio – who they took on after their last open call day in May. Pick a heart in either red or blue for footie-loving dads – all you need to do is decide on the message.

Get them before they go...

If you’re looking for a gift that ticks the ‘unique’ boxes, head over to Lost Soles and pick up one of its limited edition t-shirts, hoodies or tracksuits. Its vibrant designs have caught the eye of celebrity fans including Jamie Carragher, Tony Bellew and DJ Anton Powers and they’ve pointed us in the direction of this exotic crane hoodie in its Japanese Collection and this top quality classic grey tracksuit.

With love from me to you...

If you’re looking for the perfect present for your fab dad this Father’s Day, then a trip to the Beatles Story is a great gift. This award-winning attraction is in the heart of the Dock and takes visitors on an immersive, and sometimes submersible (think: Yellow Submarine) journey through the life and times of the world’s greatest ever band. Learn about the four lads who shook the world, as you visit the places that were key to the Beatles’ success, including the Casbah Club, the Cavern Club and Abbey Road Studios, to name a few. There’s also an impressive range of memorabilia in the museum too, including John Lennon’s guitar, Ringo’s drums, handwritten lyrics, and much more.

Pop to the Dock for some pop art...

If you’re looking for something colourful, creative and cultural, then a trip to Tate Liverpool’s upcoming and highly anticipated Keith Haring exhibition is a must. This will be the UK’s first major exhibition of the New York artist and activist’s work and will display more than 85 of Haring’s creations, which have a strong focus on social justice, addressing issues including politics, rebellion, birth and death. The exhibition will be open from 10am to 6pm each day (tickets available to pre order now, for Father’s Day) – it’s a great way to spend the day with your dad.

And, of course, visiting our Keith Haring exhibition means that it’s that bit easier to pop into our Tate shop. Here you can pick up some exclusive Tate prints and a range of unique gifts.
